A Day in the Life of an Atteline Intern

Internships are great for so many reasons! They let you put theory into practice, allowing a first-hand experience of a chosen career path whilst offering invaluable insight into the industry.

My second week is now in full swing and I have realised that ups and downs do happen, mistakes are made, but you learn from them. Here’s what I’ve learned so far in my internship at Atteline:

Jump out of your comfort zone

Never feel afraid to ask questions. It is important to ask as many questions as possible because this helps better execute tasks to the required expectations. Ensure to always jump onto an assigned job, show readiness to learn, and above all be vocal. Remember that you are part of a team and are there to learn in order to take all you can from the experience.

Continue to grow

Mistakes and achievements are one of the best ways to increase your skill level. Whether good or bad, every job, even if it’s a short-term internship, presents you with an opportunity to learn something new. Just remember to not sweat the small stuff or worry about the little mistakes you make as they ensure the task is completed perfectly next time around.

Challenge yourself

From the moment you start, the company and team will ultimately have expectations. Although as an intern they will never leave you to tackle assignments on your own. You may find yourself faced with obstacles you’ve never come across before, however one of the best qualities of an intern is to be quick on your feet and have the willingness to learn.

Professional work exposure

An internship lets you have an inside look at the turning cogs and wheels of an organization. Notably, not every company is the same but the fundamental skills taught will be universal. An internship is generally the first exposure to the professional world, providing the building blocks you need for the future as well as setting the foundations for your career skill set. Think of the opportunity as a way to test-drive a potential career, allowing you to make an informed decision if it is the right path for you or not.
