"Rain" Raises USD 110 Million in Series B Funding

THE BRIEF

Atteline client Rain, the first licensed cryptocurrency brokerage and custodian allowing users to buy, sell, and store cryptocurrencies, tasked us with the announcement of its massive Series B funding round in January 2022. By January 2022, Rain raised USD 110 million in its Series B funding. The round was co-led by Paradigm and Kleiner Perkins with participation from numerous parties including Coinbase Ventures, Global Founders Capital, MEVP, Cadenza Ventures, JIMCO and CMT Digital. Founded in 2017 by Abdullah Almoaiqel, AJ Nelson, Joseph Dallago, and Yehia Badawy, Rain planned to utilise this investment to further expand licensing in other countries and regions, continue to expand and focus on growth throughout MENA region, Turkey and Pakistan, enhancing its technology with an advanced trading platform and continuing to grow the team as cryptocurrency adoption continues to increase globally.

Atteline was tasked with managing and leading the communications strategy, as well as all involved partners from across the globe, to announce this funding round to increase brand awareness, and most importantly further build brand trust.

THE DELIVERY

With the original announcement intended for November, there was much excitement at the constant potential to receive even further funding for the round, Atteline’s corporate communications team was constantly thinking on their feet and pivoting to strategize to get the most from this announcement, looking to build brand trust through its influential backing.

Atteline developed the global strategy and implemented it using global publications to amplify our announcement messaging while also highlighting our tech capabilities and growth potential. To have the most impact possible, Atteline secured an exclusive first-run announcement with a trusted and leading global news source Bloomberg. To supplement this, we secured a local first-run Arabic-language exclusive with the leading newspaper, Al Bayan, as well as a local first-run English-language exclusive with the leading business title, Arabian Business. With the above all shared and liaised on under embargo, once this lifted we went to the masses, targeting both global and local publications, ranging from crypto-specific to general business and news outlets.

THE OUTCOME

Build brand awareness – With a total circulation of over 6 billion, we got our brand in front of new audiences, and just as importantly, reinforced our authenticity in front of our existing ones. We saw a total PR value of over $6 million in less than 1.5 months.

Reach new audiences to further brand reach and support the bottom line – The increased trust in our brand saw countless new app downloads, as well as a large amount of those completing the KYC (know-your-customer) process to take the next step in their crypto trading journey.
