“Only in Dubai”, they said

‘Bright lights, big city’ is definitely what comes to mind when we think of Dubai. Home to about 20,000 millionaires and the fifth most important city in the world for the ultra-rich, Dubai has cemented its foothold in the world as everyone’s dream destination.

You may be wondering exactly how Dubai successfully PRed itself as the world’s new “it” location. Well, that’s easy – think “bigger, bolder, better”. The city, which still holds the mantle of having the Burj Khalifa as the world’s tallest building, does not skimp on the wow factor when it comes to its spectacles. What other city have you heard that has a perfume created in its honour. None? We didn’t think so.

SHUMUKH, meaning deserving the highest in Arabic, sent the luxury world into a state of frenzy when it launched earlier this year. The $1.295 million dollar perfume designed by luxury niche perfume house, The Spirit of Dubai (our luxury perfume client) was created as a tribute to this ever-evolving city, taking inspiration from its seven elements, including pearl diving, falconry, Arabian horses, roses, luxury, Arabian hospitality and Dubai’s stature as a ‘city of the future’.

As a salute to the city, here are five times Dubai made our jaws drop and showed us it is a PR goldmine:

Playing tennis at 920 ft in the air, because the ground is too mainstream

The Burj Al Arab’s helipad is known for hosting iconic PR stunt events such as that crazy tennis match between Roger Federer and Andre Agassi. Not to worry, if you’re not an adrenaline junkie, you can still rent it out for private parties – nothing like a party in the sky.

Bringing Tinseltown to the desert

Set to rival the renowned Hollywood Walk of Fame, Dubai Stars will look to house 10,000 celebrities, four times more than it’s LA counterpart. Phase one of this attraction will reveal 400 stars, all decided by the public. So far, we know Mo Salah, Priyanka Chopra, Rami Malek, Chris Martin, Nancy Ajram, and Will Smith etc are all recipients.

Museums are a thing of the past!

It’s only apt that the “city of the future” houses the new age museum.  Structurally designed in the shape of an eye, it has already won awards even though it doesn’t officially open until next year! The museum will serve as a permanent exhibit for leading technology and breakthroughs that will shape the future – think climate change and flying supercars.

Dubai’s World Islands, need we say more?

Dubai is bringing UAE residents Maldives-style holiday vibes and Lebanese inspired parties. Imagine owning an island holiday home in the shape of your home country. Impossible? Not for this city

Have you heard of the London Eye? Well, now Dubai has an eye of its own

Ain Dubai, or Dubai Eye as everyone calls it, is set to be the world’s largest observation wheel. The best part – you’ll be able to dine in the sky while overlooking the entire city, as some of the “double-glazed capsules” will actually transform into private dining pods. Sign us up!

Public Relations is a fast-paced, ever-evolving field with new opportunities each day and in saying this, Dubai seems to have mastered the art of creating effective “campaigns” whilst leveraging already existing moments to drive positive public opinion.  At Atteline, we always try to take cues from this magnificent city to ensure we deliver awe-inspiring work and campaigns with all our clients, be it with those in fashion pr, beauty, lifestyle or tech. Dubai, we salute you!
